THE STATE VERSUS RICHARD MAKATANI AND ANDREW MUNODAWAFA AND ZACHARI CHIKOWERO AND TAPFUMANEYI MAPANI AND KUDZANAI BAKO AND SAUL TIRIVANGANI (2024-02-16)
The six accused persons appeared before the court facing one count of murder in contravention of s 47 (1) of the Criminal Code. The state alleged that on the 25th of July 2020 the accused persons with common purpose assaulted the deceased indiscriminately with logs, open hands and clenched fists leading to his death. They suspected the deceased to have stolen the 1st and 4th accused’s cattle. They then dragged him to their vehicles and took him to Nyabira Police Station. The deceased later died of injuries. More

THE STATE VERSUS JOROMIAH MUTOTI (2023-08-25)
The accused was charged together with three other co - accused persons of one count of murder in contravention of s47 (1) of the Criminal Code. The State alleged that on the 2nd of November 2020 the accused acting in common purpose with his three co accused persons assaulted one Charles Cherachera with knobkerries, logs and clenched fists leading to his death. THE STATE VERSUS EVAN CHIKOORE (2023-07-16)
The accused was arrested and the Magistrate ordered that he be examined by two doctors in terms of s26 of the Mental Health Act. He was found to be mentally challenged. The background as set out by the psychiatric nurse Christopher Njanjeni is that the accused was not well since 2004. He received treatment for mental illness. THE STATE VERSUS MARK PATRICK SHAW (2023-05-07)
The allegations are that on the 1st of April 2018, the accused shot and caused the death of one Edmore Phiri. He appeared before us facing a charge of murder in contravention of s47 (1) of the Criminal Code. The accused denied the charge. He said he had no intention to cause the death of the deceased but to arrest him. He suspected that the deceased must have been hit by a bullet that had ricocheted. More

THE STATE VERSUS CLIFF CHURU (2024-02-20)
The accused person Cliff Churu was arrested and arraigned for the murder of his colleague and house mate Richmore Gomo. A statement of agreed facts was tendered as the counsels from both sides had plea bargained for a lesser charge of culpable homicide. The court found it proper as firstly the State is dominus litus in the sense that if its evidence cannot sustain a conviction in the main charge a plea-bargaining route may be the best course of action.
